We believe that everybody should have the opportunity to fulfil their  potential.

Be a part of the oldest and largest youth charity in the world by volunteering with us. Volunteering with YMCA is a great way to share your skills, learn new skills and build new friendships.

There are many reasons why people volunteer with us. Perhaps they are between jobs and want to keep busy while they look for another, perhaps they want to add some valuable work experience to their CV or they might simply have some spare time and want to help others.

Some come to us with very little idea of how diverse we are, however, we make sure that all volunteers end up in a role that absolutely fits them.

With over 20 locations across Somerset offering a range of services, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Whatever the reason, our volunteers are part of a valued team who work across most of our departments. We could not have the impact that we do have in Somerset without them.

However much time you can offer us each week, whether it be 2, 10 or 30 hours, we will welcome you with open arms. We have no set length of working hours but are always looking for help!

Volunteer roles include

  • Gym Instructors
  • Performing Arts
  • Media and Radio
  • Nightstop Hosts
  • Cafe Assistants
  • Administrators
  • Accountants
  • Youth Workers
  • Receptionists
  • Gardeners
  • Chaplains
  • Trustees
  • Fundraising and publicity
  • Arts and Crafts

The above list isn’t exclusive – if you have skills or experience in other fields and would like to volunteer, we can find a suitable option for you.

Volunteers receive induction training and are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check. Travel expenses can be reimbursed and meals can be provided while on duty. After a qualifying period and depending on hours worked, volunteers may also use the gym free of charge.
