We believe that every person should be able to fulfil their potential.
For young people, getting their first job can be extremely difficult if they don’t have the experience that is required. And how do you get the experience if no one wants to give you a job?
Sadly this is a running theme for many of the people we support. A vicious cycle of unemployment can quickly ensue.
YMCA offers a slight nudge, a bit of motivation where needed and some support to work with young people who may be homeless and looking to secure a private tenancy, or who have applied for jobs but need some help working on their CV, who need help with benefits or budgeting or who want to train in a professional environment in order to meet their life goals.
This is why we develop opportunities in the community that enable us to provide training and apprenticeship opportunities to the young people and communities that we support.
Sometimes it’s just about offering someone that first step which enables them to picture themselves working in a particular role. Often it is just offering that little bit extra experience needed to complete a CV or to build upon the skills they already have.
We believe that every young person has the potential to achieve. We base our training on this fundamental belief. If you show us you want it, then we can help you get it.
The Beach Hotel
In November 2013 the iconic Beach Hotel in Minehead was purchased by YMCA Somerset Coast Group, who saw the old hotel as an opportunity to restore the heart of a community.
Today, now run by YMCA The Beach Hotel are fully committed to helping young people in the community to shine. They offer apprenticeships, training and support to develop the talent in the kitchens and other services.
Many of our apprentices go on to become full time additions to our energetic and professional staff team.
